Stores Technician

The Workshop and Engineering section has recently undergone a significant reshaping and we are now looking to recruit to a number of key roles across the team to secure long term success.

  • Basic understanding of plant and equipment part definitions, descriptions, and terminology.
  • Have a sound working knowledge of standard IT applications used in an office environment.

  • General understanding of Health and Safety in a workshop environment

About the role 

Our Transport and Engineering section are seeking to appoint an experienced Stores Technician, to be part of a team based at The Arium but may also be asked to work anywhere within the city boundary.

The successful candidate will be a highly flexible, well-motivated self-starter who possesses excellent communication skills and a commitment to providing the highest level of service. You must have a proven ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritise your work and keep accurate records.

You will be required to support the Stores Supervisor in providing a comprehensive store and purchasing service for Workshop and Engineering section. This will include the acquisition, issue, and receipt of Agricultural, Horticultural, Arboriculture and specialist plant, machinery and vehicle parts, tools and equipment as required by workshop operational personnel, while ensuring compliance with procurement procedures. 

To initiate and complete all necessary documentation and records relevant to the store's operations including stock maintenance, creating stores orders, receipt of goods and payment of invoices as requested.

Job Description

Job Purpose: To support the Stores Supervisor in providing a comprehensive store and purchasing service for Workshop and Engineering including the acquisition, stock control, issue and security of plant and equipment parts and materials to meet workshop demands in accordance with best practice procedures, standing orders and financial regulations.  Working closely with and supporting other areas of the service. 

Responsibilities:

  • To undertake daily stock administration and mail duties as required. 
  • To assist the Stores Supervisor by monitoring and maintaining accurate information on store contents for re-ordering of stock levels using the stores management systems. 
  • To assist in the sourcing and acquiring of plant and equipment spare parts, in accordance with approved supplier lists, as required by workshop staff whilst exploring all possible avenues for parts acquisition.  
  • To carry out stock and computer record checks ensuring stock is maintained at minimum levels.
  • Assist the Stores Supervisor with stores in and out processes including the issue and receipt of specialist tools and equipment as required by technicians.
  • To initiate and complete all necessary documentation and records relevant to the store's operation including creating stores orders, receipt of goods and payment of invoices as requested.
  • Undertake the stores invoice procedure using the financial management system.
  • To assist with the set up and day to day control of the stock administration systems.
  • To accurately input data into all record systems, manual and computerised and to produce regular performance and financial information.
  • To assist in setting up of the scanning and computerised filing systems- taking responsibility for administrating and maintaining the system.
  • Explain all related matters and/or to provide basic training to other staff, using well developed communication skills to undertake this clearly and understandably.  
  • Comply with the council’s store security protocols. 
  • To collect urgent parts as and when necessary. 
  • Compliance with all relevant operating procedures and work instructions as required. 
  • To compile COSHH assessments for stock items requiring them and undertake audits as required.
  • Flexible and adaptable to change to assist other services as required commensurate to grade. 
  • Participate in appraisal, training and development activities as necessary to ensure up to date knowledge and skills.
  • Improve own practice through observation, evaluation, discussion with colleagues and development programmes.
  • To work collaboratively with colleagues, knowing when to seek help and advice.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos, work, and aims of the service by attending relevant meetings, training days/events as requested.

Qualifications

  • Ability to access remote sites efficiently with a minimum B1 driving licence.
