Elections and Regulatory Services

Our elections and regulatory service is a highly regarded, forward-thinking area of the council that is responsible for a range of teams that help keep our city running smoothly.

As the teams within this area are so diverse, there are jobs to suit most people. You could be involved with anything from registering births, deaths and marriages to inspecting food businesses to ensure they are operating in a healthy and safe way.

One thing all teams in this service have in common is the commitment to working together to make Leeds the best city in the UK. Our team members are compassionate and dedicated and understand the importance of completing their work in a fair, timely and thorough manner.

If you share these values then you could be just right for this service. Our teams include:

Registrars

This team is involved in many of life’s most significant moments. When new life enters the world or a loved one sadly passes away, staff in our friendly registrar team are on hand, managing the registration of births and deaths, issuing certificates, marriage and citizenship ceremonies.

Environmental health

This is a larger team that’s responsible for a wide variety of areas. They inspect food businesses and enforce health and safety legislation in the retail and service sector. They also register skin piercing activities such as tattooing and piercing and enforce animal health legislation and dog control orders. No two days will be the same, as they also provide advice and information on environmental problems such as commercial noise, air pollution and illegal burning of waste.

Entertainment licensing

This team are responsible for administering and enforcing licenses for the sale of alcohol, provision of entertainment, gambling and more.

Electoral services

The council is responsible for facilitating local and national elections and as a result our electoral services team is vital. This team is responsible for arranging and running elections, referendums, and other ballots.

Local and property search services

This team is responsible for the compilation and maintenance of the local land charges register and street registers and provides the information for land and property search requests.

Taxi and private hire licensing

It’s important that our residents and visitors are safe when getting in a taxi and colleagues who work in this team help make sure they are by administering and enforcing licences for taxis (hackney carriages) and private hire vehicles.

If you feel like you could slot into any of these teams we’d love to hear from you.
